Tuesday, 23 February 2010 20:51 Hate to be a nay-sayer here ;however, Gary Gygax should not be memorialized in stone. Yes, he gave the basic D&D game and most of the goodies that went with it. Yes, he had a hand in AD&D, another work which we love. Needless to say, he wasn't a good steward of his industry as his wife and her lover stole his company away from him. Later he resurfaces with another system he writes. I was at the convention at Georgia when he introduced his new gaming system. Of course, he had a room full of people - he was Gary Gygax. 20 minutes into his delivery of the rules , the room was 2/3 empty and the other 1/3 hung around to get his autograph on tee-shirts. I think we make be giving Gygax a little too much esteem . Don't get me wrong, his early games I loved and still do but that is no reason to build a monument for him.
